Essential Vacuuming Hacks: Leave Your Carpets Smelling Amazing
A good, clean carpet can make your home feel more inviting and even make it smell better. However, if you carefully read the ingredients and instructions on the back of those commercial carpet cleaners, you might think twice about using them. Some of the chemicals within these products can cause dizziness and even shortness of breath, in certain individuals. This is not to mention the fact that they are quite pricey.
With all of that being said, you should not be worried, because there are all-natural cleaning solutions that are completely safe. These will clean your carpet thoroughly and leave it smelling great. Below you will find more information about these products and how to mix them.
Vinegar and Essential Oils
You may not be aware of the fact that vinegar makes a great cleaning solution. It is often times used to clean old smelly refrigerators and cat litter boxes. Of course, the smell of vinegar has a bit of kick to it, but once it dries it becomes completely odorless. Plus, the essential oils will also help kill out the smell of the vinegar.
Here is a list of supplies that you will need to complete the mixture.
- Essential Oil
- Mixing Cup
- Stir Stick
- A Carpet Steamer
This mixture will be added to your carpet cleaner in the same manner that you would add your store bought mixture. The homemade solution is very easy to create. You simply add equal parts water and vinegar to a mixing cup and stir it up a little bit. After that you just place in a few drops of any essential oil of your preference. Keep in mind that lavender oil is a good choice, because not only will it leave your carpet smelling nice, but it protects against fleas and bed bugs, as well.
Just pour this mixture into your steam cleaner or carpet washer and you will be ready to clean your carpet naturally and safely.
Homemade Shake ‘N’ Vac
With baking soda and essential oil, you can create your own homemade shake ‘N’ vac. Here is a list of supplies that you are going to need. Remember to equip yourself with a vacuum cleaner that has a good suction, as this will make the cleanup tremendously easier.
- Baking Soda
- Essential Oil
- Shaker Jar (Same one you use for parmesan cheese)
To begin creating the mixture you will pour 1 cup of baking soda in your shaker jar and then add about 7 to 10 drops of any essential oil. The oil makes the baking soda clump together, so you will find yourself shaking the mixture to break up the clumps.
Once you have your mixture made up, you will simply sprinkle it on your carpet, let it set overnight, and vacuum it up the next morning.
